SunSafe® Certification Terms
These terms apply to SunSafe® training, certification, memberships and partnerships provided by The Sunscreen List™. By purchasing, enrolling in, accessing or participating in a SunSafe® program, the purchaser and participating users agree to these terms.

1. Scope
SunSafe® programs provide education, resources, implementation guidance and, where applicable, certification relating to sun protection systems, sunscreen use and environmental considerations.
Different requirements apply to individual training completion, crew certification, operational certification and SunSafe® Partnership or Distinction status.
2. Training & Access
Paid membership provides access for the period specified at purchase.
Access is limited to the individual, vessel, business, institution or organisation covered by the applicable membership.
Login details, enrolment links, access codes and course materials must not be publicly shared, resold, reproduced or distributed.
The Sunscreen List™ may suspend unauthorised access while enrolment is verified.
New crew or staff joining an active organisational membership may request access during the membership period, subject to verification.
3. Responsibilities
Participants and organisations remain responsible for:
- following applicable workplace health and safety requirements;
- following sunscreen product labels and directions;
- implementing appropriate sun-protection measures;
- ensuring crew, staff and guests receive appropriate operational guidance;
- maintaining any physical systems required for their certification level; and
- keeping relevant organisational and contact information current.
SunSafe® training supplements rather than replaces an organisation's legal, workplace safety, medical or duty-of-care obligations.
4. Training Completion & Individual Certificates
Completing applicable training requirements may qualify an individual for a SunSafe® training/completion certificate.
An individual training certificate confirms completion of the relevant SunSafe® education. It does not, by itself, certify a vessel, company, institution or organisation as a SunSafe® Partner.
5. SunSafe® Partnership & Operational Certification
Payment or course enrolment alone does not certify an operation.
SunSafe® Partnership, Marine Certification or The SunSafe® Distinction status is awarded only when the applicable requirements have been completed and approved by The Sunscreen List™.
Where the relevant certification level requires a physical SunSafe® sun-protection system, including approved SPF supply or an approved private-label solution, that system must be implemented before operational certification is awarded.
The applicable requirements may vary according to the organisation, vessel, fleet, operating environment and certification tier.
6. Certificates & Certification Marks
Approved vessels or organisations may receive a separately issued branded SunSafe® certificate.
Any right to display SunSafe® names, certification marks, badges or logos applies only to the certified entity and certification period for which approval was granted.
Certification marks must not be altered, transferred or used to imply certification of another vessel, product, service or organisation.
7. Intellectual Property
All SunSafe® course content, standards, resources, documents, graphics, certificates, certification marks and training materials remain the intellectual property of The Sunscreen List™ or their respective rights holders.
Membership provides a limited right to use supplied materials internally for the purpose for which they were provided.
Materials must not be copied, republished, sold, uploaded, distributed, used to create competing training/certification material, or provided to unauthorised third parties without written permission.
8. Membership, Renewal & Ongoing Requirements
Annual memberships run for 12 months from the applicable commencement date unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Ongoing certification may require continued compliance with the applicable SunSafe® standard, continued implementation of required physical sun-protection systems, and renewal of membership.
New resources, guidance and training updates may be added during the membership period.
Renewal does not prevent The Sunscreen List™ from updating certification requirements where reasonably necessary to reflect new evidence, standards or program development.
9. Suspension & Termination
The Sunscreen List™ may suspend or withdraw certification, partnership status, platform access or permission to use SunSafe® certification marks where:
- membership expires or payment remains outstanding;
- certification requirements are no longer met;
- SunSafe® marks or resources are misused;
- access is shared with unauthorised users;
- materially false or misleading information is provided; or
- continued association could materially misrepresent the SunSafe® standard.
Where reasonable, the organisation will be given an opportunity to remedy the issue.
10. Sun Protection & Safety Disclaimer
SunSafe® training and certification are educational and operational risk-reduction tools. They do not guarantee prevention of sunburn, UV exposure, skin damage, illness, environmental harm or any other adverse outcome.
Sunscreen is one component of sun protection and must be used according to its product label and alongside other appropriate protective measures.
Individual circumstances, environmental conditions, UV levels, activities and sunscreen performance vary.
SunSafe® information is not medical advice and does not replace advice from qualified health, safety, legal or regulatory professionals.
11. Third-Party Products
Where SunSafe® identifies, supplies or recommends third-party sunscreen or sun-protection products, those products remain subject to the manufacturer's directions, claims, warranties and regulatory requirements.
Certification does not replace the user's responsibility to use products correctly.
12. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
Where Australian Consumer Law applies, purchasers retain all rights and remedies available to them under that law.
13. Changes to These Terms
The Sunscreen List™ may update these terms as the SunSafe® program, evidence base, certification standards or legal requirements evolve.
Material changes affecting an active certification will be communicated where reasonably practicable.
