What began as years working inside Australia’s tourism and marine industries has evolved into a broader mission: to make sunscreen standards easier to understand, more transparent, and more accountable.

G'day, I'm Melanie — Aussie mum, founder of The Sunscreen List™.

The Sunscreen List™ platform and the SunSafe® certification were created from years of hands-on experience across Australia’s tourism and marine industries, where sun safety, environmental impact, and real-world operations all intersect.

My background spans roles across major tourism and marine organisations including Tourism Whitsundays (government authority), Sailing Whitsundays / Mr Travel, Explore Hamilton Island, and Coral Sea Marina, Cairns Tour Booking and Information Centre, Reef Safaris and Underwater Safaris. These roles were across operational and management levels, diving and e-commerce. Providing me with direct exposure to how sun safety, guest experience, and environmental responsibility are managed in high-traffic marine environments.

Alongside this, I have spent over seven years working in freelance web development and brand design, and an additional five years running my own design and retail swimwear label. I hold qualifications in Web Development, Small Business Management and Finance, and have completed a Certificate IV in Tourism and Sustainability through the Taronga Conservation Society, receiving an Individual Award for Innovation. My marine experience is further supported by SSI and PADI Divemaster training, along with work alongside marine conservation, aquaculture, and environmental programs.

Today, that perspective is also shaped by motherhood, and a deeper focus on long-term health and responsibility.
